I bid you a fond farewell...  I must be moving on...

Dear Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I write this announcing the closure of Trinity Yoga.  It is time for me to re-focus on my family and its needs.

Please check my schedule online for remaining classes.  This will be the last week classes will be held (September 25, 2011).

For those who prepaid, you will be reimbursed for unused class time.

I have enjoyed getting to know each and every one of you.  I do hope you continue your yoga journey, either with videos/dvds, online classes, or by finding a yoga class near you!

I highly recommend Yoga Life in Norman (www.normanyoga.com).  That is where you will find me reconnecting with my own personal practice!

If in the future I do decide to teach yoga again, I will let everyone know when and where!

Many blessings,

Erin Smith

Don't be dismayed at goodbyes.  A farewell is necessary before you can meet again.  And meeting again, after moments or lifetime, is certain for those who are friends.  ~Richard Bach

Is Yoga a Religion?

No, yoga is not a religion; it is a health science and a lifestyle that seeks to bring harmony to the whole person—body, breath and soul.

The ancient practice of yoga began in India, and the little-emphasized postures were for meditation or Ayurvedic medicine, but the yoga of that day did not focus so much on the postures but the other aspects of a total system of living.

The yoga we associate with today almost completely consists of physical postures that actually come from a combination of those few ancient poses, as well as European weight lifting and body building routines, and gymnastics systems.

This new transnational system was developed for use in India during British rule by the YMCA’s.

For a more in-depth explanation, please read Yoga Body:  The Origins of Modern Posture Practice by Mark Singleton.

This is a common misconception. The practice of meditation, breath work, and poses is often spiritual and can enhance your personal beliefs and faith, no matter what religion or culture you affiliate with.

‘A heart at peace gives life to a body.”
Proverbs 4:30

About Erin Smith, Owner of Trinity Yoga

In 2005, I was introduced to yoga by a friend in my MOMS Club who is a yoga instructor. At the time I was a complete mess emotionally and physically, dealing with the heartbreak of infertility. I felt my body was betraying me.

After I started to practice the postures, breath work and meditation, I found that yoga was affecting me in a lot of positive ways. I noticed that my health was improving; that my body’s flexibility from my younger years was returning, my mind was quieting, and my faith was returning.

Practicing yoga has not only strengthened my physical health, but more importantly, my spiritual and mental health. I am much more in tune—body, breath and soul.

I want to share the gift of a rounded yoga practice that my mentors have taught me. I have learned how to balance my body, vitalize my breath and nourish my soul. I would like to provide the opportunity to share what I have gained through yoga with the community so that each individual can become grounded for the purposes of stability and health.

I received my RYT-200 certification training from Becca Hewes of Yogalife in Norman, OK.  I have received additional training from Dayna Gelinas of New Day Yoga in Kennisaw, GA for my Christian Yoga certification, and will soon have my certification for Yoga in Chairs, a gentle form of yoga incorporating the chair to avoid the obstacle of getting up and down off the floor.

I am active in my church (First Presbyterian Church of Pauls Valley), teaching Sunday School.  I am a member of MOMS Club of Norman - NE (a LIFESAVER when I was a stay-at-home mommy with a small child), a member of the PTA in Noble, as well as the Cleveland County Republican Women's Club and a lifetime member of American Legion Auxiliary (I attended Girls State in high school).

In my "past life", I managed a credit bureau and worked in banking and mortgage lending.

Blessings,

Erin Smith

Statement of Faith

As a Christian, I believe in God and the Trinity, one in three and three in one; a coequal relationship between what have come to be named Father, Son and Holy Ghost by Scripture. I believe Jesus Christ to be both Fully God and Fully Human. The Son of God knows the very heart of God and acted to bring about God’s Will.

God-With-Us learned by experience everyday human life and how to communicate the desires of God’s heart to us in ways we could understand.

I believe there is only one way to God, through His Son. I believe all people can be forgiven of sins and receive eternal life through Christ.

I am fortunate to have been raised in the church. The Episcopal Church prior to adulthood, later finding the Presbyterian Church to be Home.

My devotion continues to grow and is truly becoming a defining characteristic of my daily life.

‘I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
Psalm 139:14
